Hello Birders,
For folks wanting to learn more about gulls, laridafile Bryan Pfeiffer will
be offering a course in gull identification. The field portion of the course
is FULL, but the lecture part is open to all with a donation to the VINS
North Branch Nature Center. See below for more info and bring your
binoculars if you come.
Becoming Gullible
A Course in Gull Identification
Let's give gulls their due. In the depths of winter, they offer ease of
viewing, grace in flight, and some genuine rarities. So here's your chance
to stop worrying and learn to love the gull. After three sessions, you'll
never view a McDonald's parking lot in the same way. This course is suited
to beginning gullers and intermediate birders who want to sharpen their
skills. Here are the details:
LECTURE - Friday, January 6 / 6:00 - 8:00 pm
VINS North Branch Nature Center in Montpelier
We'll learn the secrets to gull identification: how to age a gull, key
plumage and field marks, and which rarities to expect. Can there be a better
way to spend your Friday evening than looking at Bryan's collection of gull
photos?
By the way, Elm Street between School Street and Spring Street is closed due
to a rock slide. To get to the VINS North Branch Nature Center head north on
Main Street to the rotary and follow signs for Route 12 north (second right
off rotary and then another right). The nature center is on the right hand
side about 1.5 up Elm/Rte 12 (just past Woodbury College).
Best,
Chip
