Nine of us from GMAS did our monthly survey of Delta Park today. It was
warm with a stiff south wind which kept most of the birds in the bay on the
north side of the park. The water was open and very high - extending the
wetlands to quite close to the bike path. It completely cut off the land
from the south side path to the point.
Species seen:
14 Am. Black Ducks
38 Common Goldeneyes
11 Common Mergansers
10 Herring Gulls
130 Ring-billed Gulls
16 Great Black-backed Gulls
2 Bald Eagles
2 Downy Woodpeckers
6 Am. Crows
12 Black-capped Chickadees
5 Tufted Titmouse
2 White-breasted Nuthatch
4 Starling
4 Am. Tree Sparrows
This is more than we usually see in January at the park which I attribute to
the warm temperature and open water.
The eagles, one adult and one immature, were new for our DP surveys. They
were harassing the gulls, and in turn were harassed by a crow.
