In Bennington on Harrington Rd, where the waste water treatment plant is, across from mailbox 761 is a very reliable place to see Red-bellied Woodpeckers. Infact, I cannot think of a single time I have gone by this place and not seen or heard one (I bird here whenever I'm in the area which is about every couple months). Sometimes It takes a little while, but from my experience they are always around. Taj Schottland Putney --- On Mon 01/23, - Maeve Kim < [log in to unmask] > wrote:

I've also seen them on Whalley Road, which runs off the road to the Charlotte Ferry - right by the 90 degree bend by the apple orchard. I think they're nesting in both areas but I don't have any proof. My favorite sighting of this species was at my daughter's house in Minnetonka, MN. She's had a nesting pair on her property for two years now and they are amazingly, comically noisy and raucous. I've always been astonished how non-birders can not notice bird noise, but even the least interested visitor asks my daughter what on earth is making that noise.Good luck!Maeve KimJericho Center
