Terry,
On Route 17 in Addison, just before crossing the bridge to NY, take a left
into the state historic site at Chimney Point. You can park in the lot at
the bottom and scope the lake from there. Round the corner along the
shoreline at the boat launch ramp for a view to the north (and for
Maclurites fossils in the limestone). And, from the parking lot, walk up
the bank under the bridge for a "high-ground" view of ducks and eagles
gathered there.
Crown Point is on the NY side. You can walk around for various views of the
lake there as well.
