Late yesterday afternoon at the boat launch at Perkins Pier (foot of
Maple St. in Burlington) in among about 75 mallards at the edge of the
parking lot was one lone, juvenile- looking gull. I"ve looked through
all my books and the closest I could come up with was Sibley's 2nd
winter Glaucous Gull, but it was neither "large or powerful" as per his
description. ( Young Iceland was a thought...) It was white, lightly
speckled with grey, with pink-ish legs, small dark eyes, black tip of
bill (didn't note color of front of bill), rounded head and front of
head had a definite grey cast. Any help on this one?? It's snowing
pretty hard right now, but I may try to get down for another look;
sorry, no digital camera, but I may try my old-fashioned SLR. Nancy
