I originally posted this question right before the holidays and received
only 1 response. Hoping my timing was poor, I'm posting it again:
In our conversations with collection development librarians, we often hear
that they wish publishers would archive online all the content from the
print journal, including the front matter (such as instructions to authors
and editorial board) and the display and classified ads, as they feel that
everything that's part of the print journal should be part of the historical
record. Still, we don't know of anyone who is doing this (yet). Do any of
you know if any journal is now including the front matter and/or ads
appearing in the print edition in the online edition? Perhaps newspapers are
doing this? Are newspapers publicly archiving their ads? We would
appreciate any insights that you can offer. We will share what we learn.
Thank you.
