In case anyone is interested. Kevin
Registrations are being accepted for the Third Annual Down East Spring Birding Festival, taking place in the Cobscook Bay Area of Maine during Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-29, 2006.
Our ecologically unique area offers a greater variety of habitats than you typically find in conjunction with a single birding festival: boreal and northern hardwood forests, bogs, fresh- and salt-water marshes, grassy and shrubby fields, streams and lakes, steep rugged headlands, extensive tidal flats, and coastal islands. Birding sites include the Moosehorn and Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuges, the Roosevelt Campobello International Park, and several state parks and protected wildlife areas.
Our bird list includes over 235 different birds that might be in the area. We expect to record 150-180 of them during the festival. You will be able to see Atlantic Puffins up close and (almost) touchable, as well as several boreal species. You also might find two dozen warblers. We have nesting waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, Alcids, owls, woodpeckers, Vireos, swallows, thrushes, sparrows, and many others. We also participate in the America's Birdiest City/County Birdathon; in 2005, we were the third birdiest Atlantic Coastal County.
You can download information from the Registration page of our web site, www.downeastbirdfest.org<http://www.downeastbirdfest.org/>. We also would be happy to mail you a registration packet if you email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>; write PO Box 42, Whiting, ME 04691; or call 207-733-2201. To ensure a pastoral experience for all birders, attendance is limited to 100 registrants.
Thank you for your consideration, and also for passing along this message to those whom you think might be interested.
