We had a goose rumble at our pond this morning. Fifteen geese arrived and settled in. Ten more geese made several pass-bys before coming in for a landing ( on the ice-covered water). Lots of honking as they came in by all present. The first group lined up on the east side of the pond, the second group on the west side, followed by neck weaving, honking and hissing, and finally the real rumble with much "goosing" and headlong rushes at each other. Finally the second group flew off accompanied by four of the original fifteen.
Glad I happened by the window when I did - would have hated to miss that action!
Two people have reported seeing Bald Eagles this week - one in Manchester and one in Dorset. Is someone keeping track of eagle sightings in Vermont? The Dorset people sent me a great picture of the mature eagle they saw.
