Greetings all!
Hope everyone one saw some amazing birds on their April vacations. I am posting to let everyone on VT Bird Listserv know how the VINS youth birding team did in Texas this year. Five teens and two chaperone's (including Chip Darmstadt from North Branch Nature Center) went down to the lower Rio Grande Valley and scouted for a week, and ended with a 24 hour competition on Saturday. Our Team (sponsored by Nikon Optics) saw 200 species in 24 hours!! We placed second in our youth division and fourth out of all the teams involved this year. we saw many amazing birds while in Texas. Just few are:
- Aplomado Falcon
- Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet
- Cinnamon Teal
- Swallow Tailed Kite
- Altamira Orioles and much more..
i would like to take this time to thank VINS for making this trip possible, and i encourage anyone who wishes to get involved with activities facilitated by VINS. if you haven't already you might think about taking part in the VT Birdathon this year. It's a great way to get involved with local birding and become more familiar with Vermont species.
Anyways hope you all have an enjoyable spring migration and Hooray for Vermont birders.
