While visiting on Nantucket a number of years back I observerd a lone
painted reddish orange shingle in the upper center of the gable ends of
many houses. When I asked it's significance I was told that they were
there to discourage flickers from drumming on their houses? Might be
worth a try ... certainly could be an inexpensive solution.
