Out early yesterday morning at Shaw Mountain Preserve in Benson, I almost stepped on a woodcock that flew right up in front of me. She only went about 30 feet until landing and doing her broken wing act. Knowing I was about to step on something I just looked in front of my feet for over a minute before finally seeing two chicks. Their bills were almost as long as their bodies. I should have had my camera with me.
