It was a pretty exciting morning at West Rutland
Marsh. Before we started Roy Pilcher noted that,
while it should a good day for birds, the list of
120 species already tallied from previous walks
was not likely be topped. Today's 70 species,
however, included three new additions: solitary
sandpiper (1), black-throated blue warbler (1)
and blue-winged warbler (2)!

Also of note were green heron (1), broad-winged
hawk (1), red-tailed hawk (3) and American
kestrel (1). One sora was observed in the
vicinity of the boardwalk. Wilson's snipe (1) was
heard as were alder flycatcher (3), least
flycatcher (4) and great crested flycatcher (1). 

Along with the tree swallows and barn swallows 
cliff swallow (1) and northern rough-winged
swallows (2) were observed. Brown thrasher (2),
red-eyed vireo (3), winter wren (1) and veery (3)
were heard as well. 

Marsh wrens, warbling vireos, gray catbirds,
swamp sparrow and Baltimore were numerous.  

Warblers included Nashville, yellow,
blackburnian, black-and-white, American redstart,
ovenbird, northern waterthrush and common
yellowthroat.
