5/16/06 South Burlington / Red Rocks Park (south side)
Following weeks of overcast/drizzle and a night of thunderstorms/heavy
rain there was a nice fallout of migrants at Red Rocks Park in South
Burlington this morning. I birded primarily the south side of the park
between the entrance and the pumping station, from ~8:30 - 10:00 AM;
weather was heavy overcast with light rain towards the end. Dozens to
perhaps 100+ warblers were working the canopy in loose flocks, with
good species diversity including:
Northern Parula
Nashville Warbler
Yellow Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Blackburnian Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Pine Warbler
Bay-breasted Warbler
Black-and-White Warbler
American Redstart
Ovenbird
Also seen at Red Rocks today:
Great Crested Flycatcher
Red-eyed Vireo
Scarlet Tanager
Baltimore Oriole
Indigo Bunting
plus the usual residents
Elsewhere in South Burlington today:
House Wren
Common Yellowthroat
