I seem to be having a problem this year with my House Wrens. The first intrusion was a nest box close to the house. Two eggs were destroyed and the feathers removed. The Tree Swallows started over and have since laid SIX eggs and are incubating them. They rarely leave the nest box. So far everything seems OK.
Further in the meadow, I have a nest box that contained five white Tree Swallow eggs. Two days ago, a House Wren poked a hole in every egg and removed them from the box dropping them directly below the opening. Also, he removed the feathers lining the inner part of the nest. The Tree Swallows occupying that nest box have NOT returned!
This is the first year I have had such a problem with House Wrens. Meanwhile, he and his mate are building a nest in a small "wren" box. Any ideas what is going on?
I have a third pair of nesting Tree Swallows with two eggs plus baby Blue Birds about to fledge. Needless to say, I am nervous about this little devil!
