It started while still I was still lying in bed... I first heard GREAT
CRESTED FLYCATCHER through the window, and then the gentle cu-cu-cu-cu of
When I went out for a walk along the treeline hoping to get a glimpse of the
cuckoo, it had stopped calling. But I wad delighted by wonderful close
views of an ORIOLE pair fluttering about and hanging upside down in a tree,
and very nice looks at both INDIGO BUNTING and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT.
And then I heard it again, very close this time.... cu-cu-cu-cu. I followed
the sound, and I got lucky - the cuckoo was sitting high above in a tree
that was not too leafy. I was able to get a great, long look - a good
minute - before it flew off. Life bird for me.
An hour later, during breakfast, we had our first ever EVENING GROSBEAK at
our feeder. What a glorious morning!
