I got a few hours mid-day to bird the Connecticut Valley south of Brattleboro, including Black Gum Swamp, then sat and watched the birds around my home. Migrants are starting to arrive - most often heard was Black-throated Green Warbler and Blue-headed Vireo. In several locations I had Baltimore Oriole, Warbling Vireo, Yellow Warbler and Eastern Phoebe
In addition to these and the 20 "usual suspects" I expect to see, I had Bank Swallow, Hermit Thrush, Eastern Bluebird, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Northern Flicker, Wild Turkey, Brown Thrasher, Northern Mockingbird, COMMON EGRET, Tree Swallow, American Goldfinch, Great Blue Heron, Marsh Wren, Brown Creeper, Mute Swan, Swamp Sparrow, Broad-winged Hawk, Dark-eyed Junco, House Finch, Belted Kingfisher, Evening Grosbeak, Killdeer, Bald Eagle, Turkey Vulture, Double-crested Cormorant, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Purple Finch.
Almost 60 species if I counted correctly. Not great, but not bad either.
