You're right about that, and the links I provided
elaborate on that particular issue. In short, Venter
is not being entirely honest. Much of his microbe
collection did take place well within territorial
waters of several nations, under arrangements that
were very unclear and remain unclear even today. Folks
in Ecuador, Mexico and Bermuda are still trying to
figure out who the hell authorized Venter's activities
in their waters.
