This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for July 24, 2006 covering the period
July 17-23, 2006.
A rare sighting of 3 RED-NECKED GREBES occurred off Route 17 in South
Starksboro July 21st and 22nd.
On July 17th 4 MERLINS were spotted in Fairlee, and the nesting pair in
Proctor was observed.
Two LEAST SANDPIPERS were seen at Herrick's Cove on the 18th of July,
vanguards of the southbound migrating shorebirds. Four CASPIAN TERNS and an
adult COMMON TERN with 2 juveniles were observed at Delta Park on the 18th.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER and a GRAY JAY were seen in Victory Basin on the
19th of July.
A BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was spotted in South Starksboro, well south of its
usual residence in the Northeast Kingdom.
A WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL was present at Lewis Pond in the Nulhegan Basin on
