Have just returned from Plum Island where I enjoyed superb views of an adult Black-tailed Godwit (my first for North America). This bird was in excellent plumage and is very much worth the trip down for anyone who can manage it. Look for updates on Birdingonthe.Net (Regional/Specialty, Massachusetts).
The very long, only slightly upturned bi-colored bill plus the clean strong barring on the sides help to distinguish this bird from Hudsonian Godwit. The gleaming white wing linings are stunning - and eliminate any possibility of Hudsonian.
This bird was a gem!
