Along with around 500 other activists, I attended the World Can't
Wait: Drive Out the Bush Regime speeches at Cooper Union tonight.
It was great. The speeches were very sharp, the comedienne (Reno) was
hysterical, and the crowd was really into it.
Malachy McCourt came on stage and gave both a funny presentation and
a hair-raising rendition of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home." He'll
be speaking at the rally and march on Thursday, which begins at Noon
at Dag Hammarsjold Plaza (47th St. & 1st Ave.), which then marches
around and ends up at another rally, 4 pm, at Union Square.
I'm urging all Greens and other anti-fascists to drop whatever you
are doing and attend these rallies. Coming as they are at this moment
in time following Bush's "Right to Torture" legislation (thank you
Democrats and their apologists -- to hell with the Magna Carta!
Clearly, 800 years of Habeas Corpus is enough!), and occuring all
over the country in 170+ cities, this is our chance to begin to take
the offensive against the whole kit 'n kaboodle of the Bush regime
and its march towards fascism.
Let's not be good Germans, defeatist Amerikans, or simply snowed
under with other tasks. The time is now. Please attend, bring Green
Party banners, and let our presence be felt and change the course
this country is on.
