Dow is Death :

Halloween Day of Action    Join students across the nation in a special Day of Action for Justice in Bhopal this Halloween,    October 31st 2006, Tuesday !! **************************** Dow spends millions of dollars every year trying to convince the world that they exist in order to make the world a better place (need an example? Union Carbide makes teddy bears cuddlier: http:// www.unioncarbide.com/products/index.htm ). As all of you know, they just launched an ad campaign costing at least $30 million called 'Hu' emphasizing that the "human element" is the core of their business. The reason they spend so much of their precious money doing so is because they NEED a lovable reputation if they're going to continue killing people without consequence, and skimming profit from the human misery they create. In blunter terms, the reason why they need ad campaigns is because of people like us – we keep telling people the truth and it's a threat to their ability to do business. Days of Action that link Dow with death in the public mind are one of the most effective ways of undermining their reputation and building pressure for them to end the killing in Bhopal. So Halloween is the perfect time to demand action! Join the Conference Call to find out more! Date: Sunday, 8th October 2006 Time: 10am Pacific, 1pm Eastern Conference Dial-in Number: (319) 256-0100 Participant Access Code: 291880# ====================================================================== Dear WONDERFUL Bhopal supporters and volunteers! It is that exciting time of the year again where we get to have a lot of fun dressing up in hideous costumes, while bringing Dow DowN! And we hope that all chapters will be able to participate this year. Whether you have, or never done this before, whether you have little or a lot of time at hand, all you need is this one *magic resource*: http://www.studentsforbhopal.org/ActionCenter.htm#Halloween - a wonderful, comprehensive site put together by Ryan, with 15 possible action ideas and all the resources you will need. And although all actions require some thought and planning, you might find some that are easier to plan than others. Do what you can, depending on your availability. But do it well, and have LOTS of fun! Also, feel free to think out of the box, and come up with creative action ideas of your own! And when you do, be sure to let me know, so that I can add it to the list. Great, I'm interested! So what's my next step? => Get your chapter together and talk about it! => The most important thing to think about (other than the action itself!) is media coverage - it immensely magnifies the impact of your actions, so make sure you put in effort to get media attention! => Once your chapter decides they are interested, submit your chapter's name and your action(s) to me. => Join the conference call on Sunday, 8th October '06 where you can bring in any questions or thoughts about your local effort. Even if you are unsure about your chapter's participation at this point, I would urge you to join this call! So hurry, and call for a chapter meeting right away!
