CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF "THE PERMANENT CARNIVAL"
WHO & WHAT: Brooklyn-based writer and activist Mitchel Cohen releases a new
book, "The Permanent Carnival," on Wednesday, October 4th and will be
feted with a book party, hosted by the Brooklyn Greens, at Vox-Pop coffee house
and bookstore in Ditmas Park/Flatbush.
Mitchel Cohen lives in "The People's Republic of Brooklyn," and for many years made his living (such as it is) selling his poems in the subways. Mitchel has written one other poetry book, "One-Eyed Cat Takes Flight". Other works include "Zen-Marxism: Subjective Factors in DevisingRevolutionary Strategy," "I was a Teenage Communist," and numerous topical, political and environmental essays.
Mitchel was a founding member of the Red Balloon Collective at SUNY Stony Brook in 1969 and edited its journal through the decades. Mitchel co-founded and coordinates the No Spray Coalition (against pesticide spraying),
works with Recycle This!, the Brooklyn Greens, and NY State Against Genetic Engineering, served on the Local Station Board of WBAI radio (99.5 FM), and co-edits "G," the newspaper of the NY State Greens/Green Party of New York.
His poems and political ideas have been roundly denounced by all sorts of officials over the years.
Mitchel will read from "The Permanent Carnival." Other poets are also invited to read from their works.
