This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for November 13, 2006 covering the
period November 6-12, 2006.
Six BLACK SCOTERS were spotted off Grand Isle on 11/6.
Expected species of waterfowl this time of year, including BRANT, GADWALL,
AMERICAN WIGEON, AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, MALLARDS,NORTHERN PINTAILS,
RING-NECKED DUCKS, WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, LONG-TAILED DUCKS, BUFFLEHEADS and
COMMON GOLDENEYES, were spotted this week.
A GOLDEN EAGLE was observed passing through Essex on 11/5.
Five AMERICAN COOTS were at Mud Creek WMA on 11/9.
Four late-migrating KILLDEER were seen in the Hubbardton marshes of Lake
Bomoseen on 11/10. WILSON'S SNIPE were spotted at Shelburne Bay Park (1 on
11/8) and Jericho (2 on 11/11).
A CAROLINA WREN was sighted in Colchester on 11/11.
A lingering SWAINSON'S THRUSH was observed feeding on yew berries in South
Newfane on 11/4.
A GRAY CATBIRD was sighted in South Newfane on 11/4.
On 11/6 a female BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBER was spotted in South Newfane and
a PALM WARBLER in Woodstock.
Two SWAMP SPARROWS were present at Dead Creek on 11/8 and 9.
An EASTERN MEADOWLARK was spotted in Norwich on 11/9.
