I got to Dead Creek yesterday just before dusk. By then the ducks had
scattered with a few here and there throughout the area. About 2500
snow geese were very far back from the west end of the viewing road.
And, aside from a flock of at least 1,000 starlings that blackened
Brilyea access road and surrounding trees, that was it. No harriers, no
small birds, nothing. But the geese were spooked by something and the
whole flock rose and swarmed around and around for several minutes
before settling. That, for me, made the trip a success.
Another fun thing; stopped at Shelburne Bay boat access on the way south
where a lone brant swam to shore, came out of the water, waddled around
for a few minutes, then stepped back in the water and swam away. He
wasn't much concerned with the cars or people.
