Just seeing if there's anyone else that's wishing to upgrade from this
clunky format, or anyone that can identify why the listserv format has
Part of the clunky format is historical; it's what we got started with. Good
enough for casual work. Of course, we're all of the "email" generation, and
are probably way behind the myspace / facebook generaton in our practices.
Never the less, modern mail readers (Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail) allow
automated filtering, filing, threading, sorting, etc. I usually just set my
filter to "color" the subject line of incoming mail ... Mail from
individuals at work comes in black, mail from uvm mailing lists comes in
grey, and mail from off campus in light blue. I also have key word filtering
which automaticall files "junk" messages - so that I don't get roommate
wanted, ride wanted, car for sale stuff from some internal groups.
In addition to the digest format, the listserv program at UVM allows
subscribers to use ATOM, RSS1, or RSS2 feeds for their favorite reader.
Login to the listserv and check your subscriber settings; the RSS style
feeds are near the bottom of the page.
