Just an FYI.. I think people have been aware of an impending event of
this sort at VI, just thought you may want the "official" word.
This is the body of a letter from Doug Harris, our Executive Director
that went to all school districts last week. Note the sentence about
"support concludes this summer and fall".....
Essentially, the Technology program at VI will be ending on June 30th,
and the VI Math program is looking at September 30th, for an ending
Thanks.. Feel free to pass this along to others that may be interested
in this information.
For the past fifteen years The Vermont Institutes has earned major
external funding from the National Science Foundation and U.S.
Department of Education, most recently in the areas of mathematics and
technology. As this support concludes this summer and fall we are
actively seeking resources and exploring ways for the work to continue,
both within and outside The Vermont Institutes.
The next several months may include significant changes to the structure
and size of our organization. Our primary goal is to continue to carry
out our mission of "serving teachers, school leaders, and policy makers
in making continuous improvement in learning outcomes for all K-12
students in Vermont."
Working with our partners in preK-12, higher education, business and
state government, we dramatically impact areas such as:
* Increasing professional knowledge among teachers and teacher
leaders in content, pedagogy, assessment, equity, and leadership
* Developing teacher, teacher leader, and administrator skills in
local assessment and
data driven decision-making
* Applying research and content knowledge to support diverse
learners in the classroom
* Integrating technology in the curriculum
* Implementing results-driven program evaluation, action planning,
planning at the school and district levels
We celebrate these successes even as we embrace the magnitude and
importance of finding
ways to sustain these efforts into the future.
We are fortunate to have many of Vermont's finest educators and
administrative staff among our staff and consultants. We are fully
committed to supporting the work of these key people, using resources
within or outside VI.
We know and appreciate that many of you care deeply about our work. We
will keep you informed of our progress and are most interested in your
insights and ideas as we move forward.
Thank you for all that you do in support of Vermont learners.
