Bill Barnard hosted a group of birders from the North Branch Nature Center
today at Victory Bog. It was finch heaven today including the following...
RED CROSSBILL - 2 males, 1 female seen by Bill before the group arrived
White-winged Crossbill - many, many pairs
Purple Finch
American Goldfinch
Pine Siskin
and a flock of a dozen Evening Grosbeaks
Also, a single male Black-backed Woodpecker.
Later in the day at Moose Bog, there was no sign of the Three-toed
Woodpecker (although there was a Four-toed Downy Woopecker frequenting the
area). Again, lots of White-winged Crossbills, as well as three beautiful
Gray Jays at very close range.
