Julie,
I believe you have a Red-shouldered Hawk, NOT a Red-tailed Hawk. Your
picture shows the color characteristics of a Red-shouldered with its muted
but definite crescent-shaped wing panels and NO dark patagial marks on the
underwing which are characteristic of Red-tails.
