Five observers braved today's soggy weather and
tallied 24 species at West Rutland Marsh (as
compared with 21 species a year ago tomorrow).
The changing of the guard was evident with
today's birds - two American black ducks; one
great blue heron; three song sparrows; 12
red-winged blackbirds; and 18 common grackles.
The great blue heron was flying purposefully in
the direction where herons have nested in past
years.
One red-tailed hawk, one northern shrike and five
American tree sparrows were noted along with the
usual species.
Next month's marsh walk is scheduled for
Thursday, April 19, 7 a.m.
