I am putting together a presentation on blood parasites of Rusty
Blackbirds to give in April at a meeting of the International Rusty
Blackbird Technical Working Group in Greenville, MI. The Rusty
Blackbird, as many know, has undergone a precipitous decline that some
put at 70%. This group is looking at possible causes and I agreed to
examine for blood parasites. For information, 60% of the birds I
looked at were infected with one or more blood parasites. Leucocytozoon
was most commonly encountered. This is a malaria like parasite
transmitted by blackflies and "no-see-ums".
I would like to use a photograph of Rusty Blackbird to embellish the
poster. Do any of you have a photograph(s) that you could send me
digitally (.tif or .jpg) for me to use? I can not afford to pay for the
image but I would, of course, give credit to the photographer.
Ideally, I would like an adult male and female.
