This morning I found myself looking through my scope at the hundreds of
waterfowl on display at Allen Point in South Hero. Common Goldeneye are
very abundant with most males engaging in display. Greater Scaup, Lesser
Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, and Common Merganser are less abundant but still
present in good numbers. A pair of Hooded Mergansers and American Black
Ducks also joined the show. There is an abundance of open water on the
west side near the 'cut' and I am sure that tomorrows weather will work to
open up even more of the lake. Snow shoes are helpful for the walk,
especially when you get to the drifts on the causeway itself.
At Eagle Mountain in Milton; Pileated Woodpecker, Brown Creeper, Golden-
crowned Kinglet, and a Merlin provided me with good looks.
