We are well into the 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program
application period. Last year we dropped in the number of applications
submitted and in the number of grants awarded to Region I fire
departments. We hope to see an increase this year, in both areas, as we
all know New England certainly needs financial assistance to increase
the capability of its fire services and address the many risks.
You should be well along in preparing your application, but there are
three weeks remaining. If you have not begun you still have plenty of
time to develop your request for funding. You need to remember the
Program Guidance and the Online Tutorial are Great aids to assist you in
your efforts, and you may contact Sherm Lahaie (617.956.7581) or me at
the number listed below with any questions. You may also call the Help
Desk at 866.274.0960 open six days a week. Their hours are 8:00 am to
8:00 pm weekdays and 8:00 am to 4:30 pm on Saturdays. Another resource
to consider is the FAQs or Frequently Asked Questions. The answer to
your question may already be posted.
These resources are located online at www.firegrantsupport.com.
I would ask you to contact all your neighboring fire and independent EMS
organizations, and never hesitate to contact us.
