I was told April was a good month to see the Spruce Grouse at Moose Bog and was not disappointed. I saw this one ( http://www.greenmountainaccess.net/~trombh/birds/spruce_grouse1.jpg ) at the far end of the trail. A few hours later, I saw at second bird near the start of the trail. Also seen:
Black-backed Woodpecker (m)
Gray Jay (several)
White-winged Crossbills (lots)
No Three-toed Woodpecker in spite of searching near the all around the beaver dam area several times throughout the morning. No Red Crossbills either.
But to fulfill my grouse expedition, I did see a flock of 10 Turkeys sitting in the road about a 1mile before South America Pond Rd on the way in, and a single Ruffed Grouse running across the road on the way out.
