Yesterday spotted either a female or imm. male Northern Harrier near the power lines that cross N. Williston Rd. Soaring and cavorting in an open field not far from there was an unidentified hawk with long, narrow wings and a longish tail. Viewed against the sun, it looked very dark, almost black, both above and below.
New to my territory this morning was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. In several location heard the cacchinations of Pileateds, but saw only one male, and wonder if all the calls were emitted by this one fellow. (I don't really think so.) Bascially very quiet here in both woods and fields. Still no E. Bluebirds, which are now nearly 2 weeks later than usual.
Would that the winds would move out of the West and come instead from the South, bringing BIRDS!
