Around 8:15 this a.m., temp 40s, skies cloudy but clearing and strongish northwesterly winds, a Rough-legged Hawk hunting. He was gliding, not soaring, and he was vocalizing. I saw what was I think the same hawk a little later, about a half mile away.
About 15 minutes later, with the sun coming out in full splendor, I was walking the brushy lane through the Christmas tree farm when a pair of Great Blue Herons appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, heading west. They were flapping majestically only about 50 feet above the ground. And passed over me and my dog with not so much as a downward glance.
Also seen: small of about 8 Snow Geese, several N. Flickers vocalizing, Song and Chipping Sparrows, A. Goldfinch, DE Junco, A. Robins, et al.
