Hi Birders- Spring is settling in. The woodcocks are here!! last night I went to a field close by where they've been every year. i got there just before dark. Moments later I heard him peenting. I got a very good look at him- he turns in each direction puffing up and peeting with each stop. He then flew straight up at and circled very widely. he did this four times when suddenly I saw a small dark figure drop to the ground about ten feet away from him. I looked in the binocs- it was a female! She silently stood while he peented and then started walking towards her. I got really excited, of course, thinking I'd witness them mating when he stopped turned around and flew up once again. She'd showed no interest, I suppose. he landed farther away this time and she walked off slowly in the other direction. We are at the far end of Huntington in Hanksville if anyone is interested in coming up to see- laurie 434-7714
