Since Monday, most showing song/ territorial/ breeding behavior:
Song Sparrows - singing up a storm around the meadows
American Crow - (1 carrying nesting material - Charlotte: take note!)
Common Ravens - feeding on a carcass, and pair in flight
Hairy Woodpecker - turning over leaves on ground, almost looked like
it was polishing its bill??
Common Snipe (display flight)
Ruffed Grouse (NOT displaying)
Robins by the score - neat show of 100 or so, in song (before the
snow) around our upper meadow. Rather deafening, almost...
Dark-eyed Juncoes - NOT typical here, three turned up Wednesday
Also great views of 28 Common Mergansers at the Lake Carmi dam, and 3
pairs Wood Ducks where the Pike River crosses Rt 118 - my kids were
hanging out the car window getting a an eyeful from about 50 feet
away. And maybe? a juv Bald Eagle near Highgate Springs this
morning. Hard to tell in rush hour traffic...
