I have worked with central schedulers located within the same facility and located outside of the same facility that schedule for multiple sites. I have many pros and cons, but, the most important aspect of training is to make sure that the schedulers spend time (not just a few hours, but at least a full day) in the department(s) for which they are scheduling. This is beneficial for providing faces to names, better familiarity with staff, and gives the schedulers a sense of what the tests are about.
