With respect to the number of computers used per a courtesy drop from Adelphia/Comcast: Two of our schools buy a static IP address from Comcast at $20/month for our routers, which permits all school computers Internet access. Our network engineer found Adelphia bureaucracy frustrating to work with. Hope that Comcast bureaucracy will be more responsive than that of Adelphia.

I'm pretty sure that the Comcast requirement (which is a carryover from
Adelphia days) was the result of a rate case issue or a re-licensing
issue with the Public Service Board.
I did make contact with a PS Department lawyer on Friday. He confirmed
that the requirement to provide one free connection to every school
still applies to Comcast. The attorney who has the most expertise is out
till later this week and I'll continue to follow up. I do know that
there is latitude on the part of schools in using that connection... I
do not believe school can only connect one computer to the cable
connection. This is what I will try to confirm with the PS Department.

Subject: comcast v. charter
Dear Bill Romond:
Any idea why Comcast has to provide this service for free and Charter
does not? We are a school in charter's service area.
