I've been seeing Ruffed Grouse either crossing the road or on the side
of it along route 118 for the last week. Twice I've seen a mommy
grouse crossing with her chicks. On 6/26 it was a mother with 5
chicks and this morning it was a mother with 7 chicks. I'm amazed
that a chick 1/4 the size of its mother can fly so well!
Twice in between the family sightings I've seen a single grouse (or
possibly there were babies in the grass, who knows!?) on the side of
the road. These sightings have all been between the junction of 118
and 109 north almost to the center of Montgomery.
