While kayaking on Charcoal Creek this afternoon I had the good fortune to view
a Caspian Tern at very close range; at times almost directly overhead. What a
bill!!! The bird was moving south rather deliberatly but, pausing frequently
to plunge-dive making quite a splash each time it hit the water. A wonderful
punctuation to the more delicate feeding style of the abundant Black Terns also
in the area.
Also...A young Belted Kingfisher was pestering a parent for a fish it had just
caught and a family group (female and several young) of Yellow Warblers was
feeding in a willow overhanging the shore. More confirmation that it's not too
late for more confirmations (Atlas, that is).
