I was fortunate enough to get a couple pictures of this bird before
it moved too far up the tree for me to spot it any longer:

I'm only familiar with the three common woodpeckers we see in
Southeastern Vermont: Hairy, Downy and Pileated. This one seemed to
be close to the size of a Hairy, but doesn't look like anything
familiar to me.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
