A successful day of monitoring the West Rutland
Marsh today (despite the gloomy weather start)
with 21 observers and 45 species.
One American bittern and two great blue herons
were observed. Raptors seen included two northern
harriers, male and female, who have present
throughout the season, one red-tailed hawk and
Five ruby-throated hummingbirds were counted.
Twenty-three eastern kingbirds were tallied,
included one astounding flock of about 15. Four
eastern phoebes were also present.
The only warblers seen were two American
redstarts and nine common yellowthroats.

Three Baltimore orioles were a nice addition.
The next West Rutland Marsh monitoring walk will
