I was wondering if there are any organized Common Nighthawk counts in the Connecticut River Valley during fall migration. I know that large numbers of migrant nighthawks have been reported from the valley in past years, but couldn't remember if these records were part of a formal count or simply casual observations. If anybody has any information on this topic, could they please share it with the list?
I spent some time last night along the Connecticut in Hartland, looking for nighthawks. It was a beautiful night with great viewing conditions, but the only birds I saw were Spotted Sandpipers flying across the river.
Good birding,
