I visited Dead Creek yesterday afternoon. Lots of Great Blue Herons (15)
were present as well as a few Great Egrets (2) and a single immature
Black-crowned Night Heron. A lone Osprey was perched in a dead tree across the bridge
at Brilyea. The mud flats at Brilyea are exposed with Killdeer (11), Least
Sandpipers (6), Greater Yellowlegs (2), and Lesser Yellowlegs (2) present and
accounted for. Also seen was a flock of Canada geese (28). Otherwise, lots of
songbirds but not much more of particular interest.
Hopefully, the shorebird migration will perk up in the forthcoming weeks.
