Yes, robins commonly use human structures, which gives families a great  
opportunity to view the process up close. That's awesome that you have a set-up  
whereby you can view them without getting too close.
 
But as for hermit thrushes? I've not heard of that before. Granted we are  in 
a very densely wooded, private area, but still. Just curious if others have  
experienced this.
