The big show at DCWMA this morning was raptors. First I watched a peregrine dive on some shorebird species that stayed underwater as it made for the shore and safety. Periodically it would surface for a breath all the while the PEFA continued its harassing. Never did determine what the prey was, just saw a bit of very wet head.
The other show was a duel between an eagle and osprey. Interestingly enough the eagle was not carrying a fish, another one was but the osprey ignored that one.
Shorebirds were not as varied as previous reports---
semi-pal. plovers
semi-pal. sandpiper
killdeer
greater yellowlegs
least sandpiper
pectoral
spotted sandpiper
