Look at the fine prints from the Medicare carrier in your state, but my gut
feeling (and knowledge) tells me that YOU are right. Medicare does not pay
for asymptomatic screening for carotid. What your medical director may refer
to is that carotid ultrasound could be reimbursed for patients with family
history, history of atherosclerosis, or vague symptoms, but at this point
this is not a screening.
