Dead Creek in Highgate is just starting to show some shallow or mud areas for shorebird habitat.
Today, about 8 Greater Yellowlegs, 5 Black-bellied Plovers, 25 Pectoral Sandpipers, two Turnstones and perhaps as many as 50 more shorebirds in a mixed flock of Dunlin and peeps, including a couple White-rumped Sandpipers.  If the lake level continues to go down to say 94.5 feet or lower, it should be very good during October.  (boat required).  Most habitat disappears when the lake gets much above 95 feet.

There was also a juv. Bald Eagle, at least two remaining Great Egrets, and good numbers of Bonaparte's Gulls.

The mouth of Rock River in Highgate is starting to show some decent habitat, but there were no shorebirds to be found there today.
