Hi All,
What a day we had at Mt. Philo today! Started out with heavy fog, slowly
lifting and finally resolving into several layers of clouds that allowed good
viewing of hawks. In attendance...sorry, I have forgotten some people's names...
Ted Murin, Steve Parren, Judy Peterson and friends, Mike (forgot last name),
Mary (never heard last name), Sharon?, Liz Alton, Ray Barnes, and more....
Ted kept count...
It turned out to be the second highest count in VT! (Not sure if that was
second highest count on Mt Philo, or in VT overall)
12 Unidentified hawks
1 Cooper's Hawk
6 Red-tailed Hawks
1 Northern Goshawk
4 Merlin
34 American Kestrel
26 Sharp-shinned Hawks
29 Osprey
15 Northern Harriers
6 Bald Eagles
and the really amazing number...3006 Broad-winged Hawks!
There were times that it was hard to count the hawks as we had kettles of
over 100 Broad-wings!
A truely amazing day!
Liz Alton, Georgia, VT
